By Michelle McNichol, Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia

The 24-hour Maxi-Moose Wilderness Race held 17-18 May 1997 in the Cobequid Mountains was a success, by all accounts. 29 teams signed up for the 24-hour race and 5 for the 6-hour option. We had participants from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfounland, Prince Edward Island, Massachusetts, Maine and New York. Teams represented Orienteering, Running, Ultra-running, Search and Rescue (S&R), Boy Scouts, the Navy and people who just enjoy the outdoors.

In the Maxi-Moose, there were a total of 34 possible points to locate and a maximum score possible of 3500 points. Each control point visited was worth 100 points.
